Ellen Pavlakos

Ellen Pavlakos (Greek-born American, b. 1936)

Mother and Child, ca. 2005

Bronze, edition of 3

Gift of Thomas M. Dreher, 2014.4.1

Born in Athens, Pavlakos credits early exposure to classical sculptures for her artistic awareness and passion. She studied at the National Academy of Design in New York and Norton Museum School of Art in West Palm Beach. She works with clay, plaster, stone and wax, though she chiefly casts in bronze. A great appreciation for the human condition and a glorification of life radiates from her sculptures, as she considers the figure her “vehicle of expression.”
