Born in Mount Vernon, New York, Twitty served in the military for over twenty years and retired as a colonel. After, he studied painting and drawing at the Art Students League and taught at several institutions, including George Washington University and the Corcoran Gallery. Twitty's expressive art style frequently used new paint and color techniques to combine scenic abstraction and geometric compositions.
