Tanabe is recognized as a leading Canadian artist with his long and internationally distinguished career. His style has radically evolved from studying, among many styles, Abstractionism, Sumi-e and Luminist landscapes. Throughout his great body of works, Tanabe displays a shimmering mastery of color. “Untitled” was created during his transition between teaching at the Vancouver Art School and moving to New York City. There, he created works of boldly colorful and hard-edge Geometric Abstraction and Op Art through the 1970s.
